Eccles Rail Crash
An Inter-City express ran into a freight train carrying 30,000 gallons of fuel oil, after the driver of the express train passed a danger signal. This resulted in the carriages carrying oil becoming damaged, causing them to leak and subsequently become ignited by the heat of the train exhausts. The fire killed 3 people and injured many more. The death toll would've likely been higher but the leading carriage was empty of passengers.
