MV Sewol Ferry Sinking
306 people died during the sinking of the passenger Ferry, MV Sewol. The cause of the sinking is believed to be the ship was carrying too much cargo and during a sudden turn, the cargo shifted, making the ship list and then sink. 250 of those that died were students from Danwon High School. The captain and 3 crew members were found guilty of murder, the owner of the ferry company was found dead a few months after the incident following a nation wide man hunt. Ther was widespread criticism on the slow response by the government and Korea Coast Guard.
