PEMEX LPG Explosion
The San Juanico disaster was caused by a massive series of explosions at a liquid petroleum gas (LPG) tank farm in San Juanico, (outside of Mexico City). The explosions occurred when a gas leak at the facility became ignited by the facilities waste-gas flare pit. The damage was truly devastating with hundreds killed and many thousands injured. Buildings within 5km-7km radius of the explosion were either destroyed or badly damaged.
