Texas City Disaster
Large non-nuclear explosion at the Port of Texas City, caused by a fire on a docked ship detonating its cargo of 2,100 metric tons of ammonium nitrate. Lead to a chain reaction of fires and explosions throughout the port and a oil storage facility. The damage was catastrophic, buildings wiped out and over 580 people killed.
