Taunton Sleeping Car Fire
The Taunton sleeping car fire occurred in a sleeping car train at Taunton, England, in the early hours of a July morning. The fire was caused by an overheating electric heater which was covered with dirty linen. It killed 12 people (mostly via smoke inhalation), injured 15 people and had far-reaching effects for British Rail in terms of fire safety measures.
